PRESIDENT JONATHAN TO COLLECT PDP NOMINATION FORM FOR 2015 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS TOMORROW, THANKS ALL NIGERIANS WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED FUNDS TO PAY FOR FORM

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will tomorrow, Thursday, October 30 pick up the PDP nomination form for the 2015 Presidential elections.

President Jonathan thanks all Nigerians, members of the PDP, friends, associates, and all groups who in sincere appreciation of the achievements of the administration in the last four years, have been urging him to seek a second term in office.

President Jonathan is greatly encouraged by the overwhelming outpouring of goodwill and support, as well as the  confidence of the generality of Nigerians in his ability to continue to transform the country for the good of all of its  people.

The President is also grateful to all the persons, groups and communities who have sent donations, and made pledges to assist him to pay the required N22 million for the PDP Presidential Nomination Fee and Expression of Interest Form.

PROTOCOLS
1.              This inauguration marks a very important turning point in our national economic development drive with regards to our efforts to place micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as core and essential elements of economic transformation.
2.              The creation of this Council is a testament to the commitment of this administration to all inclusive economic growth. Our commitment is to meet the aspirations of our people and in doing so, ensuring rapid economic development, benefitting all our citizens, North, South, East, or West. Our focus will remain to build an economy that works for all Nigerians, and the MSME Council we inaugurate today, is essential to achieving this goal.
3.              Ladies and gentlemen, the growth of MSMEs is one that is very important in any nation that aspires towards self-sufficiency. MSMEs are the innovators, the wealth creators, as well as employment generators. Every MSME today, has the potential of growing to the large corporation of tomorrow, and that is why we are now backing the initiative with the creation of this Council.
4.              Over these past few years, Nigeria has demonstrated its determination to the rest of the world that we are focussed in becoming one of the leading world's economic engines. This we have done by achieving a reasonable level of macroeconomic stability even in the face of global recession.
5.              We currently rank as the top most investment destination in Africa, the largest economy on the continent and amongst the top 10 fastest growing economies in the world.

SURE-P spends N280bn in two years

General Martin Agwai (retd.), Chairman, Subsidy Re-Investment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P), on Monday said N280 billion had been spent out of N360 billion allocated to the programme since inception.
He made this disclosure in an interview with State House correspondents at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja after a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan.
Agwai, however, said that N80 billion was rolled over out of the total allocation of N360 billion between 2012 and 2014.
“Out of the N360 billion that was allocated to us, we rolled over N80 billion, so we spent about N280 within the period.

“That was what we used to get the East-West road to where it is today; the rail line running from Kano to Lagos and all the works that have been done.
“So, you can imagine if the over N1 trillion that was spent on subsidy is released for this kind of work, Nigeria will get the best of services,” he said.

National Assembly Sends 2014 Budget To Presidency

Nigeria’s National Assembly on Tuesday sent the 2014 Appropriation Bill to President Goodluck Jonathan for assent.
The lawmakers had, before going on break for the Easter holiday, passed a budget of 4.695 trillion Naira as against 4.642 trillion Naira proposed by the executive.
They also adopted a benchmark price of $77.50 per barrel of crude oil an increase from $74 per barrel proposed by the executive.
The 2014 budget was presented to the National Assembly by the Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Onkonjo-Iweala on behalf of President Jonathan on December 19.

Former Aviation Minister, Fani Kayode Meets With President Jonathan After APC Diatribe - PM News, Lagos

There were speculations that Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation and lately, a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC may have decided to return to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party following his close door meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday.

Fani Kayode who had in the past few months written a series of critical articles against the Jonathan administration, met with the President behind closed-doors at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday.
At the end of the meeting, the former Aviation minister refused to give details of his discussion with the President in an interview with State House correspondents after the visit.

Attempted jailbreak: SSS to punish errant operatives

The leadership of the State Security Service has commenced an investigation into an attempted jailbreak at the agency’s detention facility in Abuja on Sunday.
Our correspondents learnt on Monday that the investigation was aimed at punishing errant SSS operatives, whose carelessness was said to have been responsible for the incident.
This is as the SSS said on Monday that 16 detainees, who escaped during the jail break attempt, were rearrested.

21 dead in attack on SSS, two officers injured

The Department of State Security (DSS) has confirmed 21 casualties in Sunday's attack on its headquarters by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
A statement on Sunday by the spokesman of the DSS, Ms. Marilyn Ogar stated: "Following our earlier releases, it has been established that eighteen (18) casualties were recorded, while two (2) Service personnel sustained serious injuries. Three (3) other detainees who sustained gun shot injuries during the incident have also died.

President Jonathan is safe and well – Presidency assures

Presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati has denied speculations that the Aso Rock Presidential Villa was under attack early Sunday morning after prolonged gunshots were heard.

The usual quiet and heavily militarised area was a picture of confusion after elements suspected to be affiliated with the dreaded Islamic militant sect, Boko Haram reportedly launched an attack against the Headquarters of the State Secutity Service (SSS) in close proximity to the Presidential Villa.

Abati tweeted that President Jonathan is "safe and well".

"What happened at the SSS HQ this morning was an attempted jailbreak which has been effectively foiled. There is no cause for alarm.

"What happened at the SSS HQs has nothing to do with the Villa. President Jonathan is safe & well. Thank you for your concern & support," he tweeted.

We have noted with disappointment, the unrelenting attempt by the  Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to falsely portray his recent suspension from office as an attempt by the Presidency to bury his allegation that huge sums of money due to the Federation Account are unaccounted for by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The Presidency wishes to reaffirm that Mallam Sanusi's suspension has absolutely nothing to do with his unproven and inconsistent claim that $49.8 Billion, $12 Billion or $20 Billion is missing from the national treasury.

GUSAU HAS NOT RESIGNED

The report by an online medium earlier today that the Minister of Defense, Lt.-Gen Aliyu Gusau (rtd.) has resigned is untrue.

General Gusau remains in Office as Minister of Defence.

His absence from today's meeting of the Federal Executive Council which was cited in support of the false report of his resignation was with the permission of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Another edition of the Presidential Media Chat will be broadcast live on the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and the Voice of Nigeria (VON) at 7pm tomorrow, Monday, February 24, 2014.

During the programme, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will, as usual, respond to questions from a panel of journalists and media executives on current national issues and developments.

All other radio and television stations in the country are urged to hook up to NTA and FRCN to relay the programme to their listeners and viewers.

Gunmen shoot Jonathan’s official photographer

President Goodluck Jonathan’s official photographer, Mr. Callistus Ewelike, was on Monday night shot by unknown gunmen in Abuja.

Ewelike, a photojournalist with the News Agency of Nigeria is attached to the State House, Abuja, and he is currently acting as the President’s official photographer.

The father of two was reportedly shot at a close range in front of his house in Nyanya in the outskirts of the Federal Capital Territory, between 10pm and 11pm.

I wish to formally acknowledge your letter dated December 2, 2013 and other previous correspondence similar to it.

You will recall that all the letters were brought to me by hand. Although both of us discussed some of the issues in those letters, I had not, before now, seen the need for any formal reply since, to me, they contained advice from a former President to a serving President. Obviously, you felt differently because in your last letter, you complained about my not acknowledging or replying your previous letters.

It is with the greatest possible reluctance that I now write this reply. I am most uneasy about embarking on this unprecedented and unconventional form of open communication between me and a former leader of our country because I know that there are more acceptable and dignified means of doing so.
