Court declines to reinstate Sanusi as CBN governor

ABUJA— The suspended Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, yesterday, lost his bid to return to office as the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja declined to set aside his suspension by President Goodluck Jonathan.
The court, in its 84-page judgment, said it was bereft of the jurisdiction to reinstate the ousted CBN Governor, stressing that the nature of his suit bothered on a dispute between an employer and his employee, which it said only the National Industrial Court, NIC, has the statutory powers to adjudicate on.

However, before referring the case to the NIC, presiding Justice Gabriel Kolawole described as baseless Sanusi’s claim that he was not an employee of the Federal Government but that of the CBN.
He ruled: “When I read through the arguments of the plaintiff, I then asked myself, so whose employee is he?
“It is not in dispute that the CBN is an agency of the Federal Government and a statutory body created by the National Assembly.

RESPOND TO CHARGES AGAINST YOU AND STOP MISINFORMING THE PUBLIC – PRESIDENCY TELLS SANUSI

RESPOND TO CHARGES AGAINST YOU AND STOP MISINFORMING THE PUBLIC – PRESIDENCY TELLS SANUSI
We have noted with disappointment, the unrelenting attempt by the  Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to falsely portray his recent suspension from office as an attempt by the Presidency to bury his allegation that huge sums of money due to the Federation Account are unaccounted for by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The Presidency wishes to reaffirm that Mallam Sanusi's suspension has absolutely nothing to do with his unproven and inconsistent claim that $49.8 Billion, $12 Billion or $20 Billion is missing from the national treasury.

The presidency has reiterated that it suspended the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, because he was indicted in a probe carried out by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria since May last year.

Presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati, told State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, while dismissing speculations that Sanusi was removed because of the alleged billions of dollars that had not been remitted to the Federation Account by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

PRESIDENT JONATHAN SUSPENDS LAMIDO SANUSI AS CBN GOVERNOR, APPOINTS ACTING GOVERNOR

Having taken special notice of reports of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria and other investigating bodies, which indicate clearly that Mallam Sanusi Lamido  Sanusi’s tenure has been characterized by various acts of financial recklessness and misconduct which are inconsistent with the administration’s vision of a Central Bank propelled by the core values of focused economic management, prudence, transparency and financial discipline;

Being also deeply concerned about far-reaching irregularities  under Mallam Sanusi’s watch which have distracted the Central Bank away from the pursuit and achievement of its statutory mandate; and

CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido To Retire!

Street Journal's findings have revealed that the days of the Central Bank Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the apex bank's Chief Executive are indeed numbered. Sanusi Lamido, who many see as a false alarmist has been ordered by the Presidency to proceed on compulsory retirement on or before March 2014 as his tenure as CBN governor will not be renewed.

The order for the Kano born blue blooded CBN Governor to proceed on a forced leave will come months before his term expires in 2014. Mallam Sanusi Lamido had written a fallacious letter to the President, complaining about a missing £50billion, from the funds supposed to be remitted to the Federation accounts by the NNPC. Regrettably after a two-day reconciliation with NNPC, FIRS, DPR and CBN, Mallam Sanusi apologized to Nigerians that he got his figures wrong and blamed his staff for providing him with wrong data.

NNPC Rejects CBN's $49.8bn Non-remittance Claim

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Tuesday said the  report credited to the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, where he alleged that it withheld the sum of $49.8 billion representing about 76 per cent of the total crude oil revenues from January 2012 to July 2013 was false.

The corporation in a statement signed by its General Manager, Media Relations Department, Dr. Omar Farouk Ibrahim, in Abuja said the allegation by the CBN was borne out of its  misunderstanding of the workings of the oil and gas industry and the modality for remitting crude oil sales revenue into the federation account.

N’Assembly buries hope for N5,000 note

ABUJA — The Senate and the House of Representatives joined forces, yesterday, as they resumed from their two-month recess and asked President Goodluck Jonathan to stop the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi from going ahead with the restructuring of the Naira and the introduction of N5000 note, describing it as illegal and unconstitutional.
This came as the House of Representatives gave President Jonathan 14 days to implement the report of the investigative public hearing on the near collapse of the Capital market, which recommended the removal of Ms Aruma Oteh, as the Director General of Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC.
The plan by Mallam Sanusi to restructure the naira, as well as introduce N5,000 note received   condemnations from both chambers of the National Assembly as the lawmakers described the proposal as anti-people.
