PRESIDENT JONATHAN SACKS SULEIMAN ABBA, APPOINTS ARASE AS ACTING IGP
President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has relieved the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba of his appointment and duties with immediate effect.

President Jonathan has also appointed Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase as Acting Inspector-General of Police, also with immediate effect.
Until his appointment as Mr. Abba’s replacement, Mr. Arase was the Head of the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department.

Mr. Arase holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Law, as well as  Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Political Science and Strategic Studies.
He is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Defence College.

Arepo shootout: Police survivors say vandals better armed

Four of the policemen who went missing after the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation pipeline exploded in the Arepo area of Ogun State on May 25, 2014 say the vandals outnumbered them.

The survivors, corporals Abu Danmudi, Usman John, Rahimi Morufu and Abdullahi Sabo, added that the vandals were in military camouflage. The policemen, who are attached to the Inspector General of Police Special Task Force on Pipeline Vandalism, explained that the vandals, who were armed with superior firepower, stormed the area in about 14 speedboats to siphon fuel from the NNPC pipelines.

Private Security Companies cannot hire Foreigners

Ayeni made the disclosure in Ibadan, while declaring open a three-day training workshop for PGCs in the state. Adebayo Ayeni, Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Oyo State, on Tuesday, said Private Guards Companies (PGCs) were not permitted to hire foreigners.

The commandant, who spoke on “Private Guards and Security Aids”, said the law empowered the NSCDC to monitor the activities of PGCs, including their processes of recruiting officers.
“We are to ensure that your officers are properly selected and adequately trained.
“Let me remind you that you are not permitted under the law to recruit foreigners in whatever capacity, more so with the current security challenge in the country.”
The NSCDC boss, however, urged participants to see themselves as grassroots security personnel, who must develop wide surveillance beyond their immediate environments.
“Don’t restrict yourselves to places you are assigned to secure alone, please go ahead and poke-nose into the next building, because whatever goes on there might affect you.
“Once you notice anything strange, you are not to wait a second before you make your report.’’
Abraham Fagbemi, Deputy Commandant and Head of Department of the NSCDC Private Guard Company Unit, told participants that they would be trained on the usage of different security tools and equipment.
“You are to also demand from your employers, tools that can be useful for your self-defence and the defence of other peoples’ lives and property.”

NSCDC arraigns eight, impounds two trucks in A’Ibom

THE Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps have arraigned eight persons suspected to be involved in vandalising electricity cables, transformers, as well as transporting adulterated products.It was learnt that the two trucks that carried the adulterated products were parked at Etisalat base station on Abak Road, Uyo.The adulterated products were allegedly meant for the generators.The state Commandant, Mr. Pedro Ideba, said the driver and the conductor of the second truck escaped arrest.He stated that the corps operatives, however, arrested the driver and the conductor of the first truck.

13 killed as Lagos fuel truck crushes vehicles, shops

At least 13 people lost their lives after a truck laden with 33,000 litres of petrol lost control and rammed into three vehicles in the Kirikiri area of Lagos State. It was learnt that about six buildings were affected by the fire which started around 10p.m. on Tuesday.

Our correspondent, who visited the area on Wednesday morning observed the Sterling Bank, which is located at Berger Suya Bus Stop was severely burnt. The Public Relations Officer, National Emergency Management Agency, South West Zone, Ibrahim Farinloye, said the agency recovered nine bodies.

NSCDC Seizes Truck Containing 75 Bags of Petrol

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) has seized a truck containing 75 bags of Premium Motor Spirit, also called fuel, estimated to be up to 34,000 litres.

The seizure is a major breakthrough in the war against petroleum vandalism and illegal trading of the product.

At the headquarters of the NSCDC in Lagos, where the impounded truck is currently being kept, the Lagos State Commandant of the security agency, Mr Clement Adesuyi, said that the sack used in the illegal business was a new innovation that the agency had discovered.

The petroleum product was poured into nylon bags, well tied to guard against leakages and stacked into sacks.

We have done well in 2013, says Civil Defence Corps

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has done a good job in 2013 and needs the collaboration of all Nigerians for a stronger fight against the activities of vandals in the country, the paramilitary body said in a statement on Saturday.
NSCDC Commandant General, Dr. Ade Abolurin, was quoted as saying that with all the achievements his men recorded this year, the body has justified its existence in Nigeria.
The body disclosed in the statement signed by its PRO CSC Okeh Emmanuel that this year alone, it has arrested over 1,590 oil related suspected criminals and is currently prosecuting 1,549 of them while 44 of the suspects have been convicted already.

EFCC Press Release: Oil Thief Bags Two Year Jail Term

A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has convicted one Suleiman Abdul for illegal dealing in Petroleum product. Justice U.N Agomoh convicted the accused and sentenced him to two years imprisonment on each of the two-count charge preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The court also ordered that the truck with registration number XA 179 MWA containing thirty three thousand (33,000) litres of petroleum product be forfeited to the Federal Government.

Police kills two NSCDC officials, shoot five

Policemen in Ikorodu area of Lagos State have been accused of killing two officials of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.
It was learnt that five other NSCDC officials sustained gun shot wounds during the incident which occurred around midnight.
Reliable sources at the NSCDC told our correspondent that the slain officials, Gabriel Adaji and Innocent Akegbe, were on duty with their colleagues when they had an altercation with the police.
A senior NSCDC official, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said, "Around midnight, a team of NSCDC officials had just arrested some suspected vandals during a raid.
