Williams, who is ranked as the number one tennis player in the world, defeated Caroline Wozniacki 6-3 6-3 in straight sets, BBC reports.

Speaking on her win, she said “I couldn’t have finished things in a better way. It is a pleasure for me to win here, I am really emotional. I couldn’t ask to do it at a better place.”

Wozniacki, who is a close friend of Williams showed a great spirit of sportmanship, congratulated Serena saying, “she really deserved it today and played better than me.”

Serena Wins Record Seventh Miami Title

World number one, Serena Williams, cruised to 7-5 6-1 victory over Li Na to win the Sony Open and secure a seventh Miami title.

In a battle between the world's two top players, the 32-year old continued her domination over the second ranked Li, needing two hours on centre court to run her record to 11-1 against the Australian Open champion.

With this victory, the American retained the crown she won last year and also her second title of the season.

"It was really important victory, especially against Li Na," said Williams. "She started so well and if it hadn't have been for the fans I don't think I could have pulled through.

"At 5-2 down in the first set, I felt I had nothing to lose. I started to relax and, when I relax, I play my best tennis."

China's Li, the world number two, has not beaten Williams in six years and has lost 11 out of 12 matches overall.

This win in Miami is also her 59th career WTA triumph and extended her winning streak against top-10 ranked opponents to 15 matches.

Serena Williams dumped out of Aussie Open, Li Na wins

Ana Ivanovic
Ana Ivanovic
Ana Ivanovic has dumped out World number one, Serena Williams from the Australian Open.
The Serb, seeded 14th in the tournament defeated Serena 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
It was a massive upset recorded by the Serb in the fourth round as Ivanovic stalled Serena Williams’ bid to match Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova with 18 Grand Slam titles. For 26 year old Ivanovic, the victory has set her up for a last-eight clash against either Canadian teenager Eugenie Bouchard or local hope Casey Dellacqua.
“It’s amazing, I just wanted to play the best I could,” said Ivanovic. “I’m so thrilled that I played so well. I was very consistent and I’m happy about that.”
Since winning at Roland Garros in 2008, Ivanovic, ranked 14, has only made a Grand Slam quarter-final once before, at the 2012 US Open.
But under new coach Nemanja Kontic, the Serb has been thriving and came into Melbourne on the back of winning her 12th career title in Auckland by defeating Venus Williams in three sets.

Williams sisters pull out of Aussie Open doubles

Four-time champions the Williams sisters pulled out of the Australian Open doubles on Friday after an injury to elder sister Venus.
The American pair withdrew from their first-round match with Kristina Mladenovic and Flavia Pennetta because of the injury to Venus’s lower left leg.
Serena Williams, seeking her sixth singles title in Melbourne, said she hoped to be back next year playing doubles with Venus. The extent of the injury was not known.
“Well, I love playing doubles, love playing with Venus, but sometimes it doesn’t work out,” said Serena after beating Daniela Hantuchova in the singles third round.
“We’ll make sure we come back and play maybe next year.”

Australian heat making me paranoid, says Serena

Serena Williams
Ivan Dodig feared he might die and Serena Williams said the high temperatures were making her “paranoid” Wednesday as sweltering conditions continued at the Australian Open.
With temperatures above 40 Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) for the second straight day, Dodig became the latest casualty when he retired with severe cramp after four sets against Bosnia’s Damir Dzumhur.
“I was thinking I could maybe even die here,” said Dodig, calling for an afternoon break in play. “It’s not acceptable to play in these conditions,” he added, according to reports.

Dodig’s complaints follow dismal scenes on Tuesday, when Canada’s Frank Dancevic blacked out, China’s Peng Shuai vomited in the extreme heat and a ball boy collapsed.
Ice packs and isotonic drinks remained in high demand on Wednesday as temperatures hit 41.5 Celsius in the early afternoon, but then dropped to 32 Celsius by 6:00 pm.
Dodig became the tournament’s 10th withdrawal or retirement, after a Grand Slam record-equalling nine players pulled out during the first round.
Although most of the players cited injuries, Dutch player Robin Haase was another victim of cramp, which is associated with hot conditions.

Serena beats Azarenka to win US Open

serena williams
Serena Williams captured her 15th Grand Slam title and fourth career US Open crown with a 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 victory Sunday over World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka.
In the first three-set final at the US Open since 1995, American fourth seed Williams joined her sister Venus and Steffi Graf as the only women to win Wimbledon, the Olympics and the US Open in the same year.

Pushed to her limit for the only time in the Flushing Meadows fortnight, Williams was down a break twice in the third set but battled back to win after two hours and 18 minutes when Azarenka swatted a backhand long.

Tennis: Serena beats Sharapova,wins gold

LONDON (AFP) – As the newly-crowned Olympic singles gold medallist, Serena Williams was watching proudly as the American flag was raised to the roof of Centre Court on Saturday.
Then mother nature took a hand to lend a bizarre twist to the prize-giving ceremony at Wimbledon.
Williams, who crushed Russia’s Maria Sharapova 6-0, 6-1 in the women’s final on Saturday, dissolved into giggles on the medal podium as a strong gust of wind blew the famous stars and stripes flag off its metal pole and into the crowd below.
