FG rolls-out 10,000 low cost houses

The Federal Government on Thursday officially began the roll-out of the first phase of its 10,000 housing units under the affordable home ownership scheme.

The project, to be spearheaded by the newly established Nigerian Mortgage Refinancing Company will enable Nigerians to own their houses at affordable rate.

The Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala while speaking at the event in Abuja said with the flag-off, low income earners would begin to have the opportunity to own their houses under a flexible payment package.

A COMBINATION of labour and political issues may make the nation’s refineries not to be privatised until  after the general elections of 2015, according to  an investigation by The Guardian.

   The Bureau for Public Enterprises (BPE) says labour has confirmed that it wants the refineries privatised, but with shares properly allocated to workers, a condition the government has accepted.

  The Director General of the BPE, Mr. Benjamin Dikki told The Guardian, however, that the same labour had failed to put its house in order, necessitating divergent positions from some of its members across the nation.

Withdraw soldiers from PHCN before negotiation – NLC

The Nigerian Labour Congress says it will not negotiate with the Federal Government on the dispute between government and workers of PHCN until soldiers at the premises of PHCN’s headquarters are removed.

Head of Industrial Relations of the NLC, Mr. Emmanuel Ugboaja, who spoke on behalf of labour, said this in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to him, the Federal Government still has 48 hours to withdraw the military personnel at the PHCN before the union will take further action.
