UK probes Islamic preacher for hailing Chibok abduction

A United Kingdom-based Islamic preacher, Mizanur Rahman, is being investigated by police after a video showed him praising Boko Haram for kidnapping over 200 schoolgirls.

The 31-year-old of Palmers Green, north London, claimed in the video-recording posted online that killing non-Muslims was ‘not necessarily a bad thing.’

The sect had abducted the pupils from Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State since April 14.

A report by a UK tabloid, Daily Mail, said Rahman also praised the terror group for its activities.

He said in the video, “People want to make it out as though history began on the day these girls were taken from – sorry I should say these women – were taken from this high school in Nigeria.

‘Nigerians own most houses on London’s expensive street’

About 70 per cent of the most expensive buildings in London are owned by Nigerians, the Chairman, New Nation, an empowerment-oriented group, Mr. Charles Dukwe, has said.

Grandmother arrested for concealing cocaine in herb

Attempt by a 65-year-old grandmother, Hassan Abike, to smuggle 1.74kg of cocaine concealed in herbal syrup containers to London has been foiled by the officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

Abike was to board a British Airways flight on Wednesday when she was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.

According to a statement by the spokesperson of the NDLEA, Mitchell Ofoyeju, on Thursday, the suspect packed the drug in balloons and placed it in 10 plastic containers of herbal syrup.

He said the drug which was found in her bag tested positive to cocaine and weighed 1.74kg.

Assange film "Underground" focuses on early years in Australia

TORONTO (Reuters) - When Australian film director Robert Connolly went looking for some truth about WikiLeaks' founder Julian Assange, he didn't turn to government documents or leaked emails of the sort that Assange's website is famous for making public.

Instead, he focused on Assange's past as a teenage hacker and young father growing up in suburban Melbourne, Australia, more than a decade before the launch of the website that has made him both famous and notorious.
"The question is, 'What makes the man, what forms the person?'" Connolly said in an interview with Reuters at a Toronto hotel near where the film, entitled "Underground," premiered this week at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Syria files: Wikileaks releases 2m 'embarrassing' emails

The whistle-blowing website Wikileaks says it is releasing more than two million emails from Syrian political figures, ministries and corporations.

"Ground-breaking" news stories derived from the "Syria files" will be published over the next two months, Wikileaks said.
Its founder Julian Assange was quoted as saying the material was embarrassing - not only to Syria but its opponents.
The emails are said to date from August 2006 to March 2012.
Syrian authorities have been fighting an internal rebellion for some 16 months. Some 15,800 people have died, activists say.
