We almost suffocated inside cabin, stowaways recount ordeal

LAGOS — TWELVE stowaways — 11 Nigerians and a Ghanaian  — rescued by  personnel of the Nigerian Navy ship, NNS Beecroft, Apapa, Lagos, from a Spain-bound vessel, MV African Osprey, weekend, narrated how they almost suffocated inside the cabin they hid.
The stowaways, discovered to be casual workers on the ship, told Vanguard that had the crew members delayed in opening the cabin where they hid, they would have died without reaching their dream destination.
stowwayyy The suspects identified as  Boniface Douglas, a Ghanaian and 11 Nigerians: Mustapha Ayinla, Bernard Amadi, Azinabor Gideon, Isaac Delight, Daniel Timothy, Justice Agburum, Anthony Oladipupo, Emma Okon, Idowu Adeyemi, Philip Israel and Holly Osatwie, blamed their action on unemployment  in the country.

FG to re-float national shipping line in six months

THE Federal Government has concluded plans to partner with the private sector to refloat the liquidated Nigerian National Shipping Line (NNSL).

Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA); Mr. Patrick Akpobolokemi disclosed this   in Lagos at a “National Workshop on Public- Private Partnership PPP, Strategy for Infrastructural Development and Modernisation in the Nigerian Maritime Sector”, organised by the agency   in collaboration with the Infrastructure Concession Regulation Commission (ICRC).
Akpobolokemi said that President Goodluck Jonathan has tasked NIMASA to ensure that the national carrier is brought back during his regime.
This according to him is in addition to the Dockyard/Shipyard and Maritime University project in Okerenkoko, Warri in Delta State. The NIMASA boss assured that government is trying to do this by involving a Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative in order to avoid the pitfalls that led to the liquidation of the Nigerian National Shipping Line (NNSL)
