Kenneth Omeruo has signed a new deal at Chelsea. Chelsea Football Club announced the new deal on its website.
“Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce Kenneth Omeruo has signed a new contract which will keep him at the club until 2018.
Omeruo who joined Chelsea from Standard Liege in January 2012 and upon signing went on loan to Dutch top-flight side ADO Den Haag said he was happy to have extended his stay at the London club.
“I’m thrilled to sign a new contract with Chelsea and I’m really excited about the future.
“To play at such a fantastic club is a real honour for me and I’ll be working incredibly hard to be successful. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time in England so far and can’t wait to get going.”
The 20-year-old defender, who is part of the Nigeria World Cup squad plays as a centre-back but can also comfortably play on the right.
Omeruo made one appearance for Chelsea’s Under-21s in November having recovered from a shoulder injury that kept him sidelined at the beginning of the campaign. He then spent the second half of the season on loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship, where he made 14 appearances.
Chelsea website said: “The Nigerian has already gained significant experience at international level, becoming an African champion last January before appearing in last summer’s Confederations Cup in Brazil.”

Mourinho commits future to Chelsea

Jose Mourinho committed his long-term future to Chelsea on Monday, insisting he did not want to be a manager anywhere else.
The 50-year-old Portuguese, who started his second spell in charge of the London club ahead of the current season, said he'd only leave Stamford Bridge if sacked by the Blues.
"I'm not here thinking about my next move because I don't want to have a next move," Mourinho told Monday's London Evening Standard newspaper.
"I will have a next move if and when Chelsea decides it's time for that.
"I'm here to stay. I belong to Chelsea, Chelsea belong to me. I gave a lot to Chelsea in the past but they also gave a lot to me.

I do what Mourinho wants –Mikel

Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi has explained his few numbers of goals for the club and style of play insisting he works strictly to the manager’s instructions.

The Nigerian, who has won the FA Cup four times with Chelsea, netted his fourth goal for the Blues in the 66th minute of the FA Cup match against Derby County on Sunday. The goal, coming in his 300th appearance for the club, sent the fans into wild jubilation, not only for the lead but for Mikel, who has been described as ‘goal shy’ in the team.

In his post-match reaction on Chelsea website, the midfielder insists he plays according to manager Jose Mourinho’s game plan hence the scarcity of his goals.

Mikel gives us balance – Mourinho

John Mikel Obi
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has again singled out his midfielder Mikel Obi for praise. Barely two hours before the big match against Arsenal on Monday at the Emirates, Mourinho told Chelsea FC website that even though the Stamford Bridge had not done exceptionally well in their last few games, they have been able to retain some respect and points because of the work rate of the Nigerian national player.

Mourinho said, “We have a lot of possession but are not killing opponents, they are killing us and we are exposed. Mikel (Obi) gives us balance.”

This is the second time within two months that the Portuguese has specially mentioned the Nigerian preparing to lead the Super Eagles midfield at the Brazil 2014 World Cup. In November Mourinho attributed Frank Lampard’s quality attacking display largely to the presence of Mikel on the pitch.

“Frank is able to attack freely because we have John (Mikel Obi). His good covering enables Frank to effectively push forward,” the former Real Madrid coach said.

Mikel Obi apologises for Juventus blunder

Nigeria midfielder John Obi Mikel has apologised for the Champions League blunder that allowed Juventus to snatch a 2-2 draw against holders Chelsea.
With just 10 minutes remaining at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, Chelsea were on course to open their title defence with a victory after two goals from Brazil midfielder Oscar gave them a 2-1 lead over the Italian champions.
But Mikel carelessly surrendered possession with a wayward pass and Chelsea’s defenders failed to respond as Claudio Marchisio played Fabio Quagliarella into space for the equaliser.
