Woman sells day-old daughter for N20,000

YENAGOA — A commercial sex worker in Bayelsa State, weekend, gave birth to a baby girl and sold the child for N20,000 at the Ovom suburb of Yenagoa.

According to a Police source, the child, a day old, was sold to a family in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
It was learnt that the commercial sex worker operates around the popular red light zone of Ovom along the D.S.P. Alamieyeseigha area, in the state capital.
Spokesman of the Bayelsa State Police Command, Mr. Alex Akhigbe, when contacted, confirmed the incident, saying investigation into the incident traced the family involved in the unholy sale to Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Akhigbe said: “Though the details of the investigation are sketchy, the special unit of the police is on its way to effect the recovery of the baby and arrest the family that bought the child.”

Pastor Fine Oru, who reportedly burnt the face of her 10 year old niece, Grace Opion, with a hot spoon, has been arrested by Police from the Azikoro Police Division in Bayelsa.

Oru is the Assistant General Overseer of the ‘Heart Beat of God Bible Church,’ on Ompadec road, in Yenagoa,

Oru, 46, hails from Otueke, the Ogbia local government area of Bayelsa , and resides at the Egbenda community, off Ox-Bow road, in Yenagoa.

Opion, according to Oru, is the daughter of her younger sister, who is a pupil at Kingdom Success Academy, within the neighbourhood.

Alam’s loot: Bayelsa disowns lawyer, as EFCC spits fire

Abuja — The Bayelsa State Government, yesterday, disowned a lawyer, who claimed to have been mandated by the state to file a suit challenging Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for not remitting the various sums of money it recovered from former governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.
George Uboh, cited as the Chief Executive Officer of Panic Alert Security System, is reported to have approached the Federal High Court Abuja and asked it to compel the anti graft agency to remit N1.4 billion and $1.3 million to the state, being the amount it forfeited from Alamieyeseigha in 2005.

The state government said it did not mandate the said lawyer to file the suit and asked EFCC and the public to ignore the matter.
The statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Daniel Iworiso Markson, made it clear that the state did not authorise any individual to institute the suit and had no case with EFCC for that matter.
