PRESIDENT JONATHAN NEVER ACCUSED FORMER SERVICE CHIEFS OF “UNNECESSARY COMPETITION”

STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE
PRESIDENT JONATHAN NEVER ACCUSED FORMER SERVICE CHIEFS OF "UNNECESSARY COMPETITION"
Reports in the media yesterday which claimed that President Jonathan said during his visit to Yola on Tuesday that he "fired" former service chiefs because of "unhealthy competition" among them are untrue and misleading.
It appears that for reasons of mischief and reckless sensationalism, a section of the media deliberately chose to misrepresent the President's innocuous and clear call for greater synergy and inter-service cooperation in the war against terrorism.
President Jonathan did not at anytime during his remarks in Yola say that the former chiefs were guilty of undue rivalry, nor did he say, as claimed by some newspapers, that such unhealthy rivalry was responsible for recent security breaches in Adamawa and other parts of the country.

PRESIDENT JONATHAN CALLS FOR STRENGTHENING OF AU MECHANISMS FOR CONFLICT PREVENTION

STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE
PRESIDENT JONATHAN CALLS FOR STRENGTHENING OF AU MECHANISMS FOR CONFLICT PREVENTION
President Goodluck Jonathan Thursday in Addis Ababa called for urgent action to strengthen existing African Union mechanisms for the promotion of peace, security and political stability in Africa.
Delivering Nigeria's Statement on Peace and Security in Africa at the 22nd Summit of African Union Heads of State and Government which opened in the Ethiopian capital today, President Jonathan said that while the recent crises in South Sudan and the Central African Republic have reinforced the urgency of establishing the proposed African Capacity for Immediate Response to Crises (ACIRC), instruments within the current African Peace and security Architecture must, in the interim, be activated to prevent the degeneration of conflicts into warfare.

NIGERIA READY TO SHARE ITS SUCCESSES IN BOOSTING FOOD PRODUCTION WITH OTHER AFRICAN COUNTRIES – PRESIDENT JONATHAN

President Goodluck Jonathan declared Thursday in Addis Ababa that a total of about $11 Billion U.S. Dollars has been invested in Nigeria's agricultural sector by private investors and development partners since the Federal Government launched the country's Agricultural Transformation Agenda in 2011.

Speaking at a session of the ongoing 22nd Summit of African Union Heads of State and Government dedicated to the consideration of measures to boost agricultural production and food security in Africa, President Jonathan urged other African countries to emulate Nigeria's decision to treat agriculture as a viable business and not "a development programme", which, he said, was yielding positive benefits for the country.
"Over 65% of the arable land left to feed 9 billion people in the world is in Africa. We must not depend on others to feed our continent. We must feed ourselves, and do so with pride because Africa cannot be truly free, until it can feed itself.

We must not depend on others to feed our continent - President Jonathan

Woman gives birth after 23 years of Marriage

Mary AbahMrs. Mary Abah is a lawyer, banker and wife of a former Minister of Interior, Mr. Humphrey Abah. She shares her experience with FRIDAY OLOKOR on her challenge of being in marriage for 23 years without a child and the support she got from her husband
Congratulations on the arrival of your baby 23 years after marriage. Did you ever think it was going to be like this?
Before I got married, my view of the marriage institution was that marriage was a sanctuary; a place where a woman could actualise her dream together with her partner. I understood very early that marriage usually gives some form of security and the expectation was that in it, one should blossom, be fruitful and multiply generally as the Bible says. That was basically how I saw marriage in my youthful age because I finally married at the age of 27 and I was still quite young.

It is less than a month to the release of his third studio album titled Long Way to the Beginning and Seun Kuti already has a lot on his plate. When he ushers E-Punch into his Allen, Ikeja, Lagos home, the fiery artiste who recently welcomed his first child, a daughter, with his partner, Yetunde, in December, cuts a picture different from the masculine type you see when he is performing.

The love birds who seem to have eyes only for each other occasionally engage in public display of affection, before he settles down for the interview.  Not minding the presence of the poke-nosing journalist, they kiss and touch each other at delicate places.

Ana Ivanovic
Ana Ivanovic
Ana Ivanovic has dumped out World number one, Serena Williams from the Australian Open.
The Serb, seeded 14th in the tournament defeated Serena 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
It was a massive upset recorded by the Serb in the fourth round as Ivanovic stalled Serena Williams’ bid to match Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova with 18 Grand Slam titles. For 26 year old Ivanovic, the victory has set her up for a last-eight clash against either Canadian teenager Eugenie Bouchard or local hope Casey Dellacqua.
“It’s amazing, I just wanted to play the best I could,” said Ivanovic. “I’m so thrilled that I played so well. I was very consistent and I’m happy about that.”
Since winning at Roland Garros in 2008, Ivanovic, ranked 14, has only made a Grand Slam quarter-final once before, at the 2012 US Open.
But under new coach Nemanja Kontic, the Serb has been thriving and came into Melbourne on the back of winning her 12th career title in Auckland by defeating Venus Williams in three sets.
